Jesus Our Emmanuel

Matthew 1:23 introduces us to God’s promise to send His Son, Jesus – Immanuel – who is “God with us.”  This promise was demonstrated to the world through the events of Jesus’s life, death and resurrection.  Matthew 28:18-20 tells us that on the day Jesus ascended into heaven, He called His disciples to a mountain in Galilee saying, “18 All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The promise of Jesus given in verse 20 means that the real presence of Jesus is with us right now wherever we are.  Therefore, we live in the confidence of God’s promise to never leave us nor forsake us!  We live with the assurance that Jesus was willing to come among us so that we can always find Him!
Although we may have uncertainty about our lives and our futures, we can hold fast to Jesus and work to accomplish the mission He gave us.  We can hold fast to Jesus because we know the promise of Jesus!  We know the power of Jesus!  We know the presence of Jesus!  When Jesus is with us nothing can come against us.  For Jesus fills us with His strength, His peace, His courage, and His power as He carries us through our lives.
My dear friends in Christ, God calls His church to hold steady in all circumstances for Jesus is with us always to the end of the age! Therefore, during upheaval and change, we can stay focused on the mission of Jesus Christ which is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, and teaching them to obey all Jesus has commanded us.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
