Groups

Good Shepherd offers many ways to connect with others throughout the month.  Almost all of the groups below are lead by congregation members who feel a call towards leadership. These groups meet our individual needs for community, learning and caring.  If you need more information, contact the person listed, the church office at 801-255-8181 (Tues-Friday from 9-4:30) or email shepherd@gslc.net.  If you are a church member, click here to go directly to the Online Community directory.

GRIEFSHARE

This class is designed to help participants learn about their journey through grief as they are supported in Christian love whether they have lost a spouse, a parent, a child, or a best friend. This can be a new death or a past one you are still struggling with. GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. During each session we will watch a video to learn more about the grief process and then discuss the video and struggles we are facing.

GSLC CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

This group provides a place in our community where cancer survivors, those undergoing treatment for cancer, and caregivers can meet to share experiences, ask/answer questions, pray for each other and create a support network. We strive to put God’s hospitality and Christ’s love into action at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church by opening our doors to both church members and members of our local community who are dealing with the diagnosis of cancer. If you or someone you know is dealing with the effects of cancer, please join us on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 10:45 am in the Chapel.

UNCHAINED

Unchained is a newly forming, Christ-Centered, addiction recovery group experience for men and women beginning this fall hosted here at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. This grace-filled ministry provides you, or others you may know, the opportunity to experience freedom from addictive thoughts and actions that restrain men and women from being who God wants them to be. For the person who is struggling with addiction, he or she knows all too well that the chains of addictive substances are too light to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.
This road to recovery group experience is a process that will focus on God’s healing power in our lives through 8 Recovery Principles found in Jesus’ lessons for life, the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5, the Beatitudes, in addition to the 12 Steps with their Biblical comparisons. Together, we open the door of recovery by sharing experiences, strengths and hopes for tomorrow. We then become willing to accept and embrace God’s grace in addressing and solving our personal challenges by applying Biblical principles. This process will help a person become free from addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors which then leads to peace, serenity and joy. Most importantly, it builds a stronger and healthier relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and with others.
The first meeting will be Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the Serendipity Room.
If you have questions or suggestions for our consideration, you are invited to contact Good Shepherd faith community participants, LCMC Pastor/Chaplain Doug Opp (712-304-5567), John Ashton (702-596-5368) or Barb Ashton (702-596-2037)."
