Groups

Good Shepherd offers many ways to connect with others throughout the month.  Almost all of the groups below are lead by congregation members who feel a call towards leadership. These groups meet our individual needs for community, learning and caring.  If you need more information, contact the person listed, the church office at 801-255-8181 (Tues-Friday from 9-4:30) or email shepherd@gslc.net.  If you are a church member, click here to go directly to the Online Community directory.

IMMANUEL PRAYER

Are you longing for a deeper prayer life?  Do you want to experience the love of God?  Are unresolved issues from the past tripping you up? If so, we invite you to become involved in Immanuel Approach Healing Prayer which connects us to a rich relationship with God. One in which we don’t just talk to God; we hear from Him. One in which we don’t just talk about our Abba’s love; we experience His love.  Immanuel Approach Healing Prayer is based on the reality that God is always with us to guide and heal. The name “Immanuel” refers to His ongoing presence with us even when we are not aware He is with us. Prayer sessions help us connect with Jesus who is Immanuel. Immanuel Approach Prayer is not only based on the Bible, it’s also based on the way God made our brains to work.  When storms are brewing inside and it becomes easy to feel overwhelmed this prayer ministry enables us to connect with the One who made the heavens and earth and stills the storm. That’s when it helps to have prayer partners who will keep pointing you to God. Come and join the Immanuel Prayer community from 6:30-8:30 pm on the 1st Tuesday of each month or from 9 - 11 am on the 1st Saturday of each month as we strive to deepen our relationship with Jesus, our Immanuel. For more information about our Immanuel Prayer Ministry please contact Pastor Susan at 801-255-8181 or susan@gslc.net.

KNEADERS BREAD MINISTRY

Each day, except Sunday, a dedicated team of Good Shepherd volunteers pack up leftover bread at Kneaders Bakery in Midvale and distributes it to area people in "knead." Our teams deliver bread to the Copperview Recreation Center Food Pantry and Head Start program, Midvale and Sandy Boys and Girls Clubs, Life Start (The Village) and St. Theresa Catholic Church. The ministry is a great match if you are looking for a once a week volunteer gig that only takes about an hour, or you can be "on our bench" and fill in occasionally for volunteers who are unable to cover their weekly shift. The position requires a one hour training session shadowing one of our volunteers, a car that can fit several large garbage bags full of bread, the ability to stand and package the bread and lift the bags into your car. We have one volunteer assigned to a shift daily, Monday through Saturday mornings. If you are interested, please contact Brooke May at emailbrookemay.com or (801) 857-4869.

RISE

Thank you to all who participated in the very first RISE: Preteen Ministry event! This fantistic group of preteen students worked hard to serve our community at Flat Iron Mesa Park by doing a little litter cleanup. Our next community mission will be in November when we help at the food bank. More details to come.

SHEPHERD’S CARE

We all care emotionally for each other, but sometimes we need a bit of physical care, too. Shepherd’s Care is a group of people that the office staff can call on to help out members who need it. Some of those needs could be helping with a funeral luncheon or other church function, or providing meals to a new mom or someone who is homebound. Each family is assigned a specific calendar month. This is not a huge time commitment, but enables us all to get involved and Love Well! Contact Randi Grimm at (801) 809-5392 or Carla Johnson at (801) 550-0395 if you have questions.
